ANNALIESE WILBUR CHOREOGRAPHY
How It All Started...
Annaliese Wilbur's love for choreography started with their love of Tap dance. After 17+ years of Tap dancing, Annaliese wanted to expand their skills into improvisation and choreography. After providing Tap Tutoring and private lessons to Berklee students for fun, Annaliese was getting requests to teach group classes outside of school on the weekends.
This led Annaliese to found Berklee College of Music's first ever Tap Club: The "T" during their junior year at the Boston Conservatory. Their vision for "The 'T'" was to provide Tap classes for students who had conflicts with Tap course offerings at BoCo or had never had a Tap lesson before. After an overwhelming amount of support and involvement in the club within the first two months of its run, Annaliese decided to found, direct, and choreograph BoCo's Premiere Tap Showcase: Tap In! on April 23, 2022, which would be invited 24 hours later to perform the next year at the Berklee Performance Center.
With the help of a newly recruited Artistic Team made up of members from the original Tap In! performance, Annaliese and the BoCo Tap Club "T"team created a new and improved Tap show to be performed by Boston Conservatory AND Berklee College of Music students across disciplines and programs. With a cast of 24 Tap dancers, a 9 piece band, 6 vocalists, and countless friends and Berklee crew members, BoCo Tap Club premiered Berklee College of Music's first ever student Tap Showcase on February 7th, 2023, and made history as the first ever Tap Showcase to perform at the Berklee Performance Center.
Annaliese has also choreographed for a Berklee College of Music film-score major, Sam Best, who commissioned contemporary choreography for a composition called "Strife". Using the music as a guidance, Annaliese used dance to tell a story about power dynamics, oppression, and revolution. The choreography was then filmed at Boston University with filmmaker, director, and editor Juli Alonso and released April 12, 2022. YouTube video below!
